Cyclocomputer
Overview
Cyclocomputers are a device that is attached to a bicycle to display a variety of information such as speed, number of pedal rotations per minute (cadence), and heart rate. The cyclocomputer is used as a guide for recording data such as mileage and performing efficient training by an increasing number of people who enjoy bike riding as a hobby or sport due to growing health-consciousness and eco-consciousness.
High-end cyclocomputers require an LCD display featuring a large number of segments in order to display more information, low power consumption features for operating a long time on a coin cell, and so on. In addition, the main unit (display) and the sensor are connected by 2.4 GHz wireless communication. Therefore, a microcontroller with low power consumption and low pin count is also used in the sensor part.
Renesas offers a rich selection of microcontrollers and peripheral ICs that can be applied to cyclocomputers in order to realize these features. We provide the best solution for your needs with a lineup of 78K0R/LH3 low power consumption microcontrollers with built-in LCD driver for the main unit, the small-package RL78 Family and R8C Family for the sensor, and R8C/3MQ microcontrollers for 2.4 GHz wireless.
